Mavis Ayamdo Awinbota the young lady who made headlines when theghanareport published her plight has received help from the public.
The 20-year-old lady had no hopes of furthering her education after passing her WASSCE with 6 As, 1 B, and a C.
Young Mavis had no hopes of furthering her education as the 60 cedis a week she makes from her work at a bakery isn’t enough to sponsor her tertiary education dream.
After the news went viral, readers of theghanareport offered to help her to realize her dream of becoming a journalist.
Monetary donations were made to enable her to buy university forms.
She then received scholarship offers from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape Coast, and Ashesi University but she opted to per-sue her dream of becoming a journalist at Ghana Institute of Journalisms, GIJ.
“I have always wanted to be a journalist, that is my dream job, so I like GIJ”
The 20-year-old who lost her father at the age of 3 saw herself through SHS education from selling sachet water in traffic during a vacation to raise money.
“During vacation, I hawked pure water in traffic to support my mum because she is a hawker, she sells tomatoes ….so she takes care of my fees and I handle my provisions and other expenses,” she said.
